How to Clean and Maintain Your Sage Coffee Machine for Long-Term Performance
Your Sage coffee machine is an investment — and like any great tool, it needs regular care to perform at its best. At Amici Coffee, we believe great coffee starts with a clean machine. Here’s how to properly clean and maintain your Sage machine so it keeps making café-quality drinks for years to come.
Daily Cleaning Tasks
- Rinse the Portafilter and Group Head: After each use, run hot water through the group head and rinse the portafilter to remove coffee residue.
- Purge and Wipe the Steam Wand: Always purge the wand immediately after steaming milk, then wipe it clean with a damp cloth.
- Empty Drip Tray and Water Tank: Prevent mold and stale water by emptying and rinsing these daily.
Weekly Maintenance
Each week, perform a more thorough clean:
- Backflush the Machine: Use a blind filter (cleaning disc) with an approved espresso machine cleaning tablet. Run the cleaning cycle as recommended in your Sage manual.
- Clean the Shower Screen and Group Head Seal: Use a group head brush to remove build-up behind the portafilter area.
Monthly Deep Cleaning
- Descale the Machine: Use Sage’s official descaling solution or a safe alternative. This removes calcium and mineral buildup in the internal components.
- Clean Grinder Burrs (if built-in): Remove old grounds and oils by brushing the burrs clean. Some models also allow for a deep vacuum clean.
Signs Your Machine Needs Attention
- Espresso tastes off or sour
- Milk steamer loses pressure
- Water flow is restricted or uneven
- Visible coffee residue around group head
